Exceprt from Seagirls Newsletter
Well what a great way to end 2014 at the Seagirls WI, not only did we have beautiful Carols from our wonderful Seagirls Choir, but the lovely Claire Baldry also kept us superbly
entertained with her witty poetry. It was a great evening, and we would like to thank both our Choir and Claire for coming along to celebrate with
us.
Exceprt from Oddfellows Newsltetter (2015)
In March, thirty-one members enjoyed
a sparkling talk, entitled “Retiring with
Rhyme”, by former head teacher and
school inspector, Claire Baldry. Claire
described how, at the age of fifty-eight,
she had left the world of education and
reinvented herself as a performance
poet. Claire took our members on a
humorous journey, as she discussed
her change of career at the start of
retirement. She combined informal
chat with a smattering of rhyme to
provide an unusual and fascinating
insight into her life as a poet.
A number of Claire’s poems, such
as “Moving to Bexhill”, “Simply
Bexhill” and “The De La Warr Date”,
focussed on the local community,
and were much appreciated by her
audience, who applauded her warmly.
At the end of her amusing and very
interesting presentation, which
she ended with a song, Claire was
thanked by Trustee, Derek Fickling,
who presented her with a cheque for
her nominated charity, Diabetes UK.
